Paperboy Tote

Overview

Inspired by the classic newspaper delivery bag, the Paperboy Tote is a minimal, utilitarian bag designed for everyday use.

The outside is plain and simple — a blank canvas, pun intended. You can leave it as it is, or customize it with pins, badges, patches, charms, or even a large painted graphic, just like old-school newspaper carriers.

However you want to decorate it, or not decorate it, is up to you.

The Paperboy Tote is light, soft, and easy to carry. It works well as an everyday bag, grocery bag, second bag, or travel bag.

Materials & Construction

The Paperboy Tote is made from durable 18 oz Japanese cotton canvas, also known as hanpu.

The bag has a simple single-strap design and a snap-button closure. The strap can be worn as a crossbody bag or shortened into a shoulder bag by tying knots in the strap.

The hidden gusset lets the bag lay flat when empty, making it easy to fold, store, and bring along as an extra bag.

Inside, the bag has one large main compartment, two notebook-sized pockets, a pen slot, and a key tether.

One of the inside pockets has a protection flap, making it useful for smaller or more important items like transit cards, a phone, wallet, coin case, or other daily essentials.

Each bag is made in Tokyo, Japan, at the 1.61 workshop from start to finish.

The main compartment can hold daily carry items, books, small purchases, travel goods, and other everyday essentials.

The two inside pockets are a good size for paperbacks, Field Notes, and Traveler’s Notebook Passport Size.
