Overview

Whenever we have visitors at our workshop, someone usually says it feels like such a waste to throw away leftover pieces of leather and fabric.

We agree.

The Paperback Pouch is our effort to find a better use for the odd-sized leftover materials from production. Because of their size, shape, surface marks, or placement, these materials usually get set aside. But they are still durable, functional, and useful.

This pouch is made for people who enjoy the wabi-sabi in life. Small marks, scars, texture changes, and irregular details are part of the character of this product.

Because of the nature of these leftover materials, we offer the Paperback Pouch at a lower price point.

Materials & Construction

The Paperback Pouch has a flat and compact shape, with a hidden gusset that lets it lay flat when empty and expand as you put more items inside.

It is a good size for pens, pencils, writing tools, small accessories, and everyday items. It can easily hold around 16 pens, and possibly more depending on the size of the pens.

The slim, flat profile sits nicely on a stack of books and nests easily inside your bag.

Each pouch is made in Tokyo, Japan, at the 1.61 workshop from start to finish.

This pouch is available in leather and fabric versions, depending on available leftover materials.

Material Options

Leather Version

The leather version is made from leftover Himeji leather pieces from production.

Because these are odd-sized leftover pieces, the leather may include natural scars, scratches, surface marks, color variation, or other inconsistencies.

The leather is still durable and perfectly functional.

Fabric Version

The fabric version is made from leftover fabric from production, including waxed canvas, hanpu, and denim when available.

Fabric options may include 18 oz light waxed canvas from Okayama, Japan, deadstock American selvedge denim, or Okayama denim.

Because the fabric comes from leftover production materials, placement, texture, surface, and foil stamping may vary.
